Although herbalism is seen as an alternative form of healthcare here in Canada; according to the World Health Organization eighty per cent of the global population uses herbs as their primary system of healthcare. In fact, it has only been in the past 75-100 years that modern doctors have moved away from the use of plant medicines, in favor of pharmaceuticals. Interestingly, no less than 25% of pharmaceutical medicines have their ‘roots’ in traditional plant medicine and are either made using the plants themselves or by synthesizing particular plant chemicals.
Traditional folk herbalism is the art of working with plants to provoke a desired change in health and well being. Given that health is more than the absence of symptoms, that our bodies have evolved with the plants, and that we depend entirely on plants for vital nutrition (either directly or indirectly); it stands to reason that the properties of plants, be they vitamins, minerals, phenols, tannins or other, are the building blocks to overall health.

Herbalism looks at the whole person rather than a list of symptoms.  At the core every individual has a place where they are in harmony in body, mind, emotion and spirit. Lori’s goal as a herbalist is to find that harmonious core and coax it gently to the foreground.

Professional herbal consultations include a thorough health history, and participants are given a general health plan that may include some suggestions for dietary adjustments, lifestyle changes and herbal remedies. Initial consults can take up to two hours. Generally, a follow-up appointment after a couple of weeks allows for collaboration on the effectiveness of the plan, and gives an opportunity to make any adjustments that may be necessary.  This appointment usually lasts about 20 min.

Initial consultation fee: $50 / Follow up consult fee: $35
