Sound healing is the therapeutic application of sound frequencies to the body/mind of a person with the intention of bringing them into a state of harmony and health. The New Collins dictionary defines harmony as ‘congruity of parts to their whole or one another’. The word comes from the Greek word harmos, meaning ‘to join together’.” (Excerpt from Simon Heather’s book - The healing power of sound.) The use of sound for healing is not new. In our modern society, we are just beginning to appreciate the value of sound and music; however traditional cultures across the globe from the ancient Greeks to the indigenous peoples across the Americas have shown an understanding of the power of sound for health and well being for thousands of years. .
